✨DETAILS✨🔽
★ I have handmade this dazzling pocketwatch necklace with a real Madagascar Sunset Moth wing embedded under magnified glass! (All insect wings sourced ethically and eco-friendly! Read more about how I get my moth wings below!). This is a working pocketwatch that flips open to expose the clock inside! This gorgeous antique style pocket watch measures 1.5 inches x 2 inches and is on a long 30 inchchain. Comes with watch battery already installed. This is an original Chrysalis Studios design © 2015.

The Madagascar Sunset Moth (also known by its scientific name: Urania Rhipheus) is considered the most beautiful and colorful moth on earth, previously mistaken for a butterfly by scientists due to their vivid iridescent colors and day-flying behavior. It’s bright assortment of colors is a warning to predators that it is poisonous if eaten. These moths are found throughout the calendar year all over the island of Madagascar. The native Malagasy people call them "lolonandriana" meaning "noble spirit" or "spirit butterfly".

Each piece will arrive in its own custom gift pouch, ready to gift or keep, with literature on the species of butterfly, and a free die-cut sticker or magnet!
*NOTE* No Butterflies / moths are harmed in the making of my jewelry! All butterflies are raised on butterfly farms and sanctuaries and allowed to live their full lifespan, which averages about 1 month, and then collected and sold so that their beauty can live on! Butterfly Farming actually helps to preserve rain forests and also assures the survival of natural butterfly habitats. Native people are encouraged to grow plants and raise insects opposed to clearing land for cash crops. A portion of my profits are donated to the Rainforest Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the Rainforest and the many species that live within it, including the Blue Morpho Butterfly!
