✨DETAILS✨🔽
★ This shimmering array of colors in this real butterfly wing pendant is magnificent. I have handcrafted this necklace from a REAL Madagascar Sunset Moth! The wings are embedded under a large magnified glass cabochon - - your choice of the large 1.2" x 1.6" or the smaller .9" x 1.2" version. The butterfly wing is then set in your choice of antique gold, yellow gold, antique silver or black finish and hangs from your choice of an 18" or 30" chain. Please read below for more on how I ethically obtain the wings :) Each piece with arrive in a custom gift pouch, ready to gift or keep, with literature on the species of butterfly and a free die-cut sticker or magnet!

The Madagascar Sunset Moth (also known by its scientific name: Urania Rhipheus) is considered the most beautiful and colorful moth on earth, previously mistaken for a butterfly by scientists due to their vivid iridescent colors and day-flying behavior. It’s bright assortment of colors is a warning to predators that it is poisonous if eaten. These moths are found throughout the calendar year all over the island of Madagascar. The native Malagasy people call them "lolonandriana" meaning "noble spirit" or "spirit butterfly".

*NOTE* No Butterflies are harmed in the making of my jewelry! All butterflies are raised on butterfly farms and sanctuaries and allowed to live their full lifespan, which averages about 1 month, and then collected and sold so that their beauty can live on! Butterfly Farming actually helps to preserve rain forests and also assures the survival of natural butterfly habitats. Native people are encouraged to grow plants and raise insects opposed to clearing land for cash crops. I am a member of and donate to the Rainforest Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the Rainforest and the many species that live within it, including the Blue Morpho Butterfly!
