✨DETAILS✨🔽
★ The amazing iridescence of the Morpho Sulkowski butterfly is truly spectacular! I have handcrafted this dazzling necklace from a REAL Morpho Sulkowski Butterfly wing embedded under a large 30mm magnified glass cabochon and set in an antique silver vintage style pocketwatch setting. (See below for more info on how I ethically obtain the wings!). The long chain measures approximately 30" and is available in the regular silver tone metal or an upgrade to .925 solid Sterling Silver! Each piece will arrive in its own custom gift bag with literature on the species of butterfly and a free die-cut sticker or magnet!
The Morpho Sulkowski Butterfly, also known as the “pearl morpho” or the “opal morpho”, is rather rare and found only in Peru. The wings are a brilliantly iridescent pearl color, similar to an opal, that shimmer in shades of lavender to light blue to yellow depending on how the light hits them. The color in the butterfly's wings is caused by the diffraction of the light from millions of tiny scales on its wings. It uses this to frighten away predators, by flashing its wings rapidly.
*NOTE* No Butterflies are harmed in the making of my jewelry! All butterflies are raised on butterfly farms and sanctuaries and allowed to live their full lifespan, which averages about 1 month, and then collected and sold so that their beauty can live on! Butterfly Farming actually helps to preserve rain forests and also assures the survival of natural butterfly habitats. Native people are encouraged to grow plants and raise insects opposed to clearing land for cash crops. I am a member of and donate to the Rainforest Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the Rainforest and the many species that live within it, including the Blue Morpho Butterfly!
*This is not a pocket watch - this necklace is set in a faux pocket watch style setting, it is not a real working pocket watch.
