★ I have handcrafted this unique venetian style necklace using a REAL Blue Morpho Butterfly wing embedded under magnified glass! (read below for more on how I ethically obtain the wings!) The butterfly wing is set in your choice of an antique gold (as pictured), antique silver, or gunmetal vintage style setting with sparkling red Swarovski crystals. Your choice of short 18" or long 30" chain. Upgrades to real Sterling Silver chains are also available!

The Morpho Menelaus Alexandrovna Butterfly (also known as the “Giant Blue Morpho”) originates from Peru. The wings are a deep iridescent metallic blue in color that changes depending on how the light hits them. The color in the butterfly's wings is caused by the diffraction of the light from millions of tiny scales on its wings. It uses this to frighten away predators, by flashing its wings rapidly!

Each piece will arrive in a custom gift bag with literature on the species of butterfly, and a free die-cut sticker or magnet!

*NOTE* No Butterflies are harmed in the making of my jewelry! All butterflies are raised on butterfly farms and sanctuaries and allowed to live their full lifespan, which averages about 1 month, and then collected and sold so that their beauty can live on! Butterfly Farming actually helps to preserve rain forests and also assures the survival of natural butterfly habitats. Native people are encouraged to grow plants and raise insects opposed to clearing land for cash crops.
