Description

The Morpho Helena Butterfly has long been crowned "the most beautiful butterfly in the world". The Morpho Helena's wings are thicker than other Blue Morphos and provide a deep intense royal blue that shimmers and changes hue depending on the angle and how the light hits them. They also have a gorgeous white stripe thru the middle! The iridescence and brilliance of this butterfly's wings are quite shocking and really have to be seen to be believed! This magnificent pendant necklace is handmade from a REAL Morpho Helena Butterfly wing embedded under a magnified glass cabochon (read below for more on how I ethically obtain the wings!). The butterfly wing is set in your choice of an antique gold (as pictured), antique silver, or gunmetal vintage style setting with sparkling clear Swarovski crystals. Your choice of chain length (18" short or 30" long) with upgrades to Sterling silver available with the silver pendant option. The pendant measures approximately 1.75" x 2.5"

The Morpho Helena Butterfly is a very rare & therefore expensive species found in Northern South America. Its wings are an extremely metallic blue with a stunning circular white pattern. The color in the butterfly's wings is caused by the diffraction of light from millions of tiny scales on its wings. It uses this to frighten away predators, by flashing its wings rapidly.

Each piece will arrive in a custom gift bag with literature on the species of butterfly and a free die-cut sticker or magnet!

*NOTE* No Butterflies are harmed in the making of my jewelry! All butterflies are raised on butterfly farms and sanctuaries and allowed to live their full lifespan, which averages about 1 month, and then collected and sold so that their beauty can live on! Butterfly Farming actually helps to preserve rain forests and also assures the survival of natural butterfly habitats. Native people are encouraged to grow plants and raise insects opposed to clearing land for cash crops. I am a member of and donate to the Rainforest Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the Rainforest and the many species that live within it, including the Blue Morpho Butterfly!
