★ The Morpho Zephrytis Butterfly is the most metallic and iridescent of all the Morpho butterflies. The Morpho Zephrytis is rather rare and found only in Peru & Bolivia. It is also known as the “blue mother of pearl morpho”. The wings are an intense aqua blue that reflect and shimmer under light. The color in the butterfly's wings is caused by the diffraction of the light from millions of tiny scales on its wings. It uses this to frighten away predators, by flashing its wings rapidly.
